Ready-mix concrete companies deliver to dozens of construction sites daily. Each site may or may not require CIAW registration. For dispatchers and drivers, knowing when to register, and having a practical system to do it, is essential.
The Threshold Question
CIAW applies to the construction site, not to the concrete company. If the site you’re delivering to meets CIAW thresholds (project > €500K without subs, > €5K with 1 sub, or 2+ subs), registration is required for anyone performing real estate works on that site.
For ready-mix drivers, the trigger is: do you enter the site and participate in the construction process? Pouring concrete on site = yes. Dropping material at the gate = typically no.
Practical Tips for Dispatchers
- Maintain a site register, flag which customer sites require CIAW. Update when new projects start
- Equip drivers with the app, GPS-verified mobile registration is fastest for drivers visiting multiple sites
- Request RSZ site numbers, ask your customer for the NSSO site number when the project starts
- Default to registering, if a driver enters the site, register. The cost is one tap. The fine for not registering is €6,000
